Fiddler Crabs will attract and catch Sheephead, Pompano, Black Drum and Permit. There are multiple ways to rig these awesome crabs, however, there are a couple that are more successful than others. As anglers we have multiple options of hooks on the market and there are several you can use when rigging a fiddler; you can use j-hooks, live bait hooks, circle hooks or a jig head…all options are basically the same.
You’ll want to insert the hook in the bottom of the crab in the middle of it’s shell and come out through the center of the shell as best you can. Typically a #1 or a 1/o hook is the size preferred by many anglers. No need to remove the large claw on our baits as it keeps a much more natural presentation for your target species.
